GV II

Oil mill. c1856. Brick with ashlar dressings and slate roof
with coped gables and parapets. 3 storeys; 3x10 windows.
Windows are segment headed, the smaller first floor and second
floor windows having brick flat arches. These windows are
mostly blocked. Facing gable has 3 blocked windows on the
first and second floors, and below, 3 larger 20-pane cast-iron
glazing bar casements, with large overlights, the 2 to right
now fitted with ventilators. Left return has blocked windows
on the first and second floors. In the fifth bay, a covered
metal bridge to an adjoining building. In the sixth bay, a
dormer with shouldered coped gable and a door reached by an
external metal stair. Below, to right, four 2-pane casements
with toplights. This building is an important early example of
an oil mill, which is characteristic of the port-related
trades of Hull.
