Details

LACOCK BOWDEN HILL ST 96 NW (south side) 3/18 Arnolds Farmhouse II

Farmhouse, C17 to C18 extended in early C20, rubble stone with stone slate roofs. Two storeys and 1½ storeys. Principal front, to east, is of squared rubble with ashlar dressings under hipped roof, the right side built c1700, the left side built to match c1920. Stone cyma-moulded cross windows, flush quoins and dripcourse over ground floor. Original section has 2 upper windows, the right window with dripcourse carried around from north end, and 3 lower windows. The matching addition is 2-window range with eaves stack and one dormer. Original 2-window north front with west stack and dripcourses over both floors. Behind, facing west is cottage range, apparently C17 but with C18 cyma-moulded flush mullion windows, two 2-lights in dormer gables above, 3-light and 2-light below, all with dripstones. Centre door and window to right are in stone slate open porch. Blocked door in north end wall. North end stack. Adjoining to right, a C19 two-storey, squared rubble stone range with 16-pane sash each floor and door to right. East range has original oak staircase with closed string, flat balusters and moulded rail.
