Two houses. c.1840 (Frilford Grange) with mid C18 house to rear (Frilford Old Grange). Frilford Grange: coursed and dressed limestone with ashlar dressings, and banded rustication to ground floor. Gabled Welsh slate roof; brick ridge an end stacks. Single-depth plan. Franco-Italianate style. 2 storeys. 4-window range. Round arch over double-leaf doors with fanlight. 3-bay porch with keyed round arches and pierced spandrels is continued as verandah with parapet across gabled outer projections: these have tripartite French windows, the first floor windows being set and revealed within twin basket arches with busts carved on the outer keys. 2-bay centre has French windows set in moulded segmental-headed architraves. Deep pine bracketed eaves. Interior: mid C19 interior with marble fireplaces and staircase. Frilford Old Grange: coursed limestone rubble; gabled M-shaped stone slate roof; brick end stacks. Double-depth plan. 2-storey, 3-window range rear elevation, has 6-panelled (2 glazed) door with overlight flanked by C20 window and C19 four-light casement: C20 windows and mid C18 three-light cross-window with leaded lights on first floor. Mid C19 stucco extension to side. Rear service range, heightened in early C19, has two C18 three-light leaded casements. Interior: C18 panelled doors. 5-bay collar-truss with butt purlins. One of 2 villas in Frilford built for the Aldworths in c.1840. (John Betjeman and John Piper (Ed.), Murrays Architectural guide: Berkshire, 1949, p.131).
