5/79 Compton Beauchamp House,
Rotunda set on east bank of
garden approx 90 metres south
GV II
Rotunda. Probably late C19 and built for the then owners Vice Chancellor Bacon
Judge Bacon. White limestone, wrought -iron bell-shaped top. Square piers
divide rotunda into 6 bays, with low seats between the piers. Base of piers
flanking entry carved with grotesque masks over swags. Carved leaves and
flowers to each pier, with urn and carved decoration to frieze in centre of
each bay. Carved capitals in C13 Venetian Gothic style.
