Small country house. Early-mid C19 yellow and red random bond brick with a
slate roof. Two storeys. Entrance front: three symmetrical bays to right
with low, later-C19 single-storey entrance extension at left. The 3 right-
hand bays have a slightly projecting plinth. The ground floor bays have
relieving arches with semi-circular heads enclosing sash windows of 3x4
panes with flat-arched heads and ashlar sills. To the first floor are 3
further windows of 3x4 panes, though of less height, with similar heads and
sills. Hipped roof with chimneys to right of centre and left. The
entrance extension at left has a porch at right with lateral projecting
brick square columns and moulded columns which enclose a recessed
tripartite doorway with central 1/2-glazed door flanked by lateral lights of
lx3 panes. To left of this is a sash window of 3x4 panes with flat-arched
head and ashlar sill. Garden front (originally entrance front): three bays
symmetrically disposed. Central slightly-projecting bay with an ashlar
door surround having projecting springers and keystone. This now contains
a glazed door of 3x3 panes. To either side of this are sash windows with
ashlar sills and flat arched heads of 3x4 panes. Three similar windows to
the first floor, though of less height. Pedimental gable to the centre
with moulded brick surround. Recessed and at right of this is a projecting
service wing with C20 metal-framed French windows to ground floor at left
and a 2-light casement window to the first floor above.
Interior: Drawing room, extended through to the former entrance corridor.
Late C18/early C19 Neo-classical chimney piece (brought from Methersgate
Hall, Sutton) having a wooden Adam-style surround with fluted pilasters at
either side which have acanthus leaves to the necking and rams heads in
profile to the top of the capital. Central and lateral projecting plaques
to the frieze containing swags and urns and rinceau ornament. Staircase of
2 flights with a 1/2-landing, stick balusters and rounded handrail with
wreathed curtail. Hob grates to the first floor rooms with wood or slate
chimney pieces.
