CRETINGHAM (Off) SWAN LANE TM 26 SW (West side) 1/51 - Old Swan House - II

House. Mid C16. Timber framed with pebbledashed colourwashed render and a plain tile roof. Two storeys. Five-cell plan with later C16 2 1/2 bay addition. Hall with added parlour and C18 extension. Entrance front: to left and right are outshuts, that at left a single-storey lean-to, that at right of 2 storeys with a shallow-pitched roof. Between these are two ground floor 3-light C19 casements and to the first floor at right is a 3- light similar casement and to the left a sash window of 4 x 4 panes. The right hand gable end has a 4-light C20 ground floor window and a 2-light first floor window with a single-light attic window. Rear: all C20 fenestration. C20 front doorway to the ground floor at left of centre. To the ground floor at right of this are a 3-light, a 6-light, two single- light and at left one 3-light C19 casement and at far left a pair of C19 French windows. To the first floor are two 3-light and four 2-light casements and 2 gabled dormers to the attic, each of 2 lights. To the ridge at right is a stack of 2 flues and at left, slightly below the ridge, is one of three flues. Interior: Two bay hall with signs of 2 service rooms and their doorways and a 2-bay parlour. Close studding and massive broach-stopped ceiling beams to the hall with wide flat joists which appears to be the original plan form and not a later insertion. Later, inserted chimney stack to the 1/2-bay with 2 hearths. Socket for crown post in attic but no apparent soot blackening.
