Former farmhouse, now divided into 2 cottages. Dated 1597, with initials
T.P., on a post in the parlour of No.2. Basic 2-cell lobby-entrance plan; 5
bays to frame and roof. Timber-framed and roughcase rendered; roofs in a
mixture of glazed and red clay pantiles. An internal chimney-stack with a
plain red brick shaft, rebuilt. 2 sash windows to upper floor with a single
glazing bar to lights and flush frames; 2 wider sash windows to ground floor
with flush frames and 2 vertical glazing bars to lights. 2 slightly recessed
end doors in plain surrounds. Good, plain framing exposed in No.1: reverse
braces and middle rail to frame. An unusual arrangement of intersecting
ceiling-beams to the ground floor ceiling may have been designed to
accommodate the stair, still in situ, against the rear wall: all beams are
chamfered, with run-off stops. The roof has clasped purlins, diminished
principals, windbraces and steeply cambered collars. Upper ceilings
apparently original. In No.2, the post which carries the date and the
corresponding post have crudely-cut guilloche and other decoration, some
damaged.
