8/98 Sundial Cottage (formerly listed as Cottage with 20.12.60 sundial 150 yds north of the Great House)

II

House, later C17, extended and altered in early to mid C18, roughcast on rubble stone with ashlar dressings, Bridgwater tile roof, ridge stack and end stacks. Two storeys and attic. Original house was double fronted with two 3-light recessed hollow-moulded mullion windows each floor, hoodmoulds to upper windows and dripcourse stepped over centre door in moulded and stopped stone doorcase. Sundial over door dated AWPW 1685. In C18 mullions were removed and small-paned tripartite windows inserted with centre sash and house was extended to left with door and beaded 2-light window below, beaded 3-light above with hoodmould. Lower dripcourse is continued and stepped over door, C20 window replaces door. North end has attic cyma-moulded recessed mullion window and rear wall has similar window to each floor. Various rear and south end additions. Interior: one deep-chamfered beam with run-out and bar stop.
