GV II
Barn, with dovecote loft in porch. Possibly C16/early C17 in origin, re-roofed
in matching style C18/C19. Coursed limestone rubble with dressed quoins; C20
artificial stone slate roof; stone gable copings with gabled finials to main
range. 4 bays. Square vent holes. Left bay has through cart entry, the yard side
with large gabled porch projection. Porch has wooden lintel over cart entry, and
C16/C17 hollow-chamfered stone mullion window with 2 4-centred arched lights and
Tudor hoodmould. Above is a vent slit in chamfered surround with trefoil head.
Left side of porch has blocked doorway and loft door with stone slab ledge.
Lower range attached to left gable end of barn is not of special architectural
interest. Interior of barn has stone slab threshing floor and fine triple purlin
roof. Trusses have tie beams, arch-braced collars and central struts from
tie-beam to ridge. Timbers are pegged but are of modest proportions with
straight gouged carpenters' marks, and are probably C18/C19. Porch loft has
wooden partition and wall box with 8 dove entries.
