SP20NE CARTERTON AND BLACK BOURTON LAWTON AVENUE (North-west side) Carterton 2/164 No.47 (The Old Barn) 12/09/73
GV II Former farm building, now house. Late C18-early C19, altered mid C20. Coursed rubble limestone, C20 artificial stone slate roof, C20 brick chimney to centre of right wing. L-plan. One storey. Left wing, of 3 bays, has altered openings with C20 2- and 3-light wooden casements, all with wooden lintels. Wing projecting to right has C20 2-light casement in new opening in gable end, and blocked loft opening above with wooden lintel. Left return of this wing has single lights and canted bay window with C20 metal casements, and half-glazed door. Formerly part of Rock Farm, established after the Enclosure Act of 1770, the farmhouse now known as No.45 (Manor Guest House), Lawton Avenue (q.v.).
