House and shop. C16, in 2 phases. Timber framed; plastered upper floor with
remains of old plaster panels. Ground floor underbuilt in colourwashed brick.
Pantiled roof. 2 storeys. 3 shopfronts under continuous fascia: large-paned
shop windows, semi-glazed panelled doors. Upper floor has 4 sash windows with
glazing bars and a casement window to left. At extreme right is a carriage
entrance with boarded doors. Internal stack, set forward of the roof ridge.
Interior. 2 bays to left have some regular heavy studding; closely-spaced
plain joists in ceiling of ground floor with evidence for former jetty to
street. Heavy arched braces to central tie beam. To right a wider range,
probably older, contemporary with carriage entrance. Some exposed framing.
Original structure of carriage entrance largely missing, apparently as the
result of a fire. Remains of a plain crown-post roof. Roof over left section
not examined.
