6/109 Cook's Farmhouse
GV II
Shown on O.S. map as Cook's Farm Cottages.
Farmhouse, now divided. Circa 1730 with partial remodelling of 1826 (datestone);
later additions and alterations. Uncoursed limestone rubble with alternating
angle quoins; machine tile roof to main range, stone slates to lower range. 2
storeys. 3 windows, C19 casements with crudely rusticated heads (infilled to
upper right) except for C20 casement to lower left. Central plank door with 2
glazed panels to top and plain lintel. Integral end stack to left with moulded
dripstone and red brick top. C19 casements (of 3 lights to first floor and 2
lights to ground floor) with dripstones to right gable end, which has datestone
"WE/1826" to top. Lower range to left, has boarded door to right and C19
casement to left. Semi-circular external end stack with projection to base
housing bread oven. Interior. Not inspected at time of resurvey (May 1987) but
noted as having chamfered cross beam in line with main entrance. C20
single-storey addition to rear is not of special architectural interest. A
datestone "1730" is incorporated in a formerly associated converted farmbuilding
nearby (not included in this list).
