4/10000 Yarborough Cottage
- II
Farmhouse, now house. C16 with later extensions to rear and lower end. Limestone rubble, with interlocking concrete tile roof and brick ridge and end stacks finished in C19 brick. 3-room plan with axial stack backing onto former through passage; originally unheated lower end extended to left, probably in early/mid C19; rear outshots, housing stair to centre, of C19 date. 2 storeys. 4-window range to main range, with extension to left. Timber lintels over C20 plank door and small-paned 2-light wood casements. Interior noted as having retained many original features, including chamfered ground-floor beams, open fireplace with C19 mantleshelf backing onto through passage, blocked to rear with window opening in C19, and adjoining chamfered 4-centred arched wood-framed doorway of C16 type (from original central hall to through passage). Collar-truss roof, formerly with tenoned purlins reset. A substantially complete example of a post-medieval farmhouse built to the traditional 3-room with through passage plan; the framed doorway is a notable example.
