ST 88 SW LUCKINGTON CHURCH ROAD j (north side) I 2/219 Group of four Bell monuments in churchyard west of north west angle of Church of Saint Mary and Saint Ethelbert

GV II

Four chest tombs, C18 and early C19, ashlar. In two pairs. To east: a) Sarah Bell monument, later C18, with raised oval north plaque and drapery drop each side, baluster angles and large recoco- bordered south plaque with drapery drop in sunk panel each side. Moulded base and cornice with pulvinated frieze. Inscription to Sarah Bell, died 1778. b) Charles Bell monument, early C19 with round angle shafts, two wreathed circular north plaques with sunburst between and raised south plaque with reeded strip each side. Inscription to Charles Bell died 1815. To west: c) John Bell monument, early C19, with two north plaques, centre and angle piers and single south plaque with rebated angles. Inscription to John Bell died 1836. d) Unidentified monument, early C19, with lyre ends and large oval south plaque flanked by incised fluting. Two raised north plaques.
