II GV
Sculptor's, now photographer's studio. c1900 for R W Colton. Roughcast render, painted white; plain tile roof. Tall building of 3 wide bays, lower at rear with - roof sweeping down as catslide. In Arts and Crafts style having angle buttresses and raked buttresses to returns which have applied timber framing to gables; board doors and small-pane wooden casements, openings segmental-arched. Front has central bay boarded with sliding doors. 2 windows and gable louvre to each return. Central door to rear; the central bay of roof with clear sheeting. Interior not inspected, but reported to have tracks on which to roll statues around. Colton (1867-1921) is a noted architect of the period. He was President of the Royal Society of British Sculptors and was Professor of Sculpture at the Royal Academy between 1907 and 1912. S Beattie, The New Sculpture (1983, Yale), p.241.
