BICESTER SHEEP STREET SP5822N (East side) 2/101 No.84 (Bell Inn) 20/03/70 (Formerly listed as Bell Inn) GV II
Public house. Early C18 and late C18. Limestone rubble with wooden lintels; Welsh-slate roofs. L-plan. 2 storeys plus attics and 2 storeys. 3-window front of earlier main range has a central doorway between 16-pane sashes, a blocked doorway to extreme right, and has 12-pane sashes at first floor. Steep-pitched roof has a rendered stack on the right gable and, to left, shares a massive rubble-based stack with No.86 (q.v.). Later range, returning on right, has a shallower roof, further sashes and a large lateral stack. Rear of main range has a tall gabled stair projection, now embedded in an outshut to the rear wing. Interior: stop-chamfered beams; inglenook fireplace. Possibly originally linked to No.86 (q.v.).
