SP4528 DUNS TEW 9/260 The Ridge House

GV II House. Early/mid C17. Coursed limestone rubble with wooden lintels; thatch roof with brick stacks. 3-unit plan in 2 builds plus outbuilding ranges. 2 storeys plus attic and one storey plus attic. Right half of main range is taller and has two 3-light casements at first floor, a similar window below, plus another which was formerly an entrance; right bay has a mutilated stone-mullioned cellar window with moulded label. Left half of front has two 3-light casements plus the entrance at ground floor, and has a 3-light dormer in bay one. Steep-pitched roof has a small inset dormer in bay 3 and has stacks to right of bays one and 4. A lower range to right was formerly a 3-bay outbuilding but is now part of the house; a further single-storey range returns to rear from left end of main range. Interior: stop-chamfered joists and spine beams; open fireplace with chamfered bressumer; chamber fireplace with cambered stop-chamfered bressumer; winder stairs. (VCH: Oxfordshire: Vol XI, p211)
