Pair of houses with shops. Early or mid C19. Solid rendered front; left side-wall slatehung. Slate roof; rear slope at No 9 covered with corrugated asbestos. Old red-brick chimney on left side-wall, probably shared with No 5; rendered chimney on rear roof-slope of No 9. Two old red-brick chimneys on rear wings, that to No 9 partly rendered. Double-depth plan; open passage to Hyfield Place at right-hand end of ground storey of No 9. Long adjacent rear wings. 3 storeys; each house of 2-window range. Ground storey has channelled rustication. Shop fronts at both houses, No 7 having in addition a house-door to right; house-door to No 9 opens into the passage at right-hand end. Shop front to No 7 has 4-paned display window with upright glazing-bars, canted on right-hand side towards recesses, half-glazed double-doors with solid moulded bottom panels. 4-panelled house-door with old letterbox, flanked by panelled pilasters. Both shop and house-doors at No 7 have old grey-stone doorsteps. No 9 has 2-paned display window with an upright glazing-bar; half-glazed shop door to right, both the upper panel and the fanlight above of 2 panes with an upright glazing-bar. To right of it, a pair of panelled pilasters matching those at No 7, but here flanking only a patch of horizontally channelled rustication. Entablature across the ground storey, with fluted panels above the pilasters. Upper-storey windows have 3-paned sashes, each with 2 upright glazing-bars, in recessed box-frames. Plain wooden board below the eaves. Left side-wall has 2-light wooden casement window in third storey, each light of 3 panes. No 9 has 4-panelled door opening into passage, the top 2 panels glazed. Rear wing, fronting Hyfield Place, has 2-paned sash-windows. INTERIOR not inspected.
