GV II

House in row, with cafe. c1870s. English bond brickwork with painted stone dressings, slate roof. 3 storeys and basement, 3-windowed. Plain sashes at second and ground floors, French doors under transom lights at first floor, under Regency-style tent hood on wrought-iron supports to decorative balcony front; balcony carried on 7 cast-iron brackets. Windows under shouldered lintels with dog-tooth moulding, alternating quoins, and all set flush with deep chamfered cills. Basement access to left. To right, on 4 stone steps, a pair of 3-panel fielded doors under segmental pointed arch to brick voussoirs over internal glazed doors. Gable stack, left, raised coped verges, raised paved area full width. Back has half-hipped 2-bay wing with 4-pane sashes above flat-roofed canted bays with plain sashes. Further stack at eaves. A vigorous design, its vertical scale contrasting especially with Nos 6/9 (qv) adjoining, but also important in maintaining the continuity of the street.
