House in row, with restaurant. Probably early/mid C16, heavily restored C20 front. Timber-frame with arch bracing brickwork, tile roofs, brick stack. Twin gables to front street range, with long back wing, entry from alley to right, under house. 2 storeys and basement, 2-windowed. All 3-light C20 casements, central C20 door to restaurant, principal entry to house from alley. Large stack to left, raised in C20. Long back wing, brick ground floor and box framed above, includes one gabled dormer, and entry to kitchen. INTERIOR retains much timber-framing, exposed at ground floor, including heavy framed and braced party walls, and broad early joists on transverse beam; at the front, set back from the underbuilt frontage, is a beam with wave mould, propped at the centre with a moulded member probably from elsewhere in the structure. In the back room there are chamfered and stopped ceiling joists, spanning approx 3m to heavy chamfered transverse beams. Lobby to right, centre has C18 part-glazed interior door, and C18 door to alley. Fireplace, to left, restructured. Thin C17 plank door gives to basement, with some brick vaulted sections. Winder stair by fireplace rises through both storeys, and the roof has heavy framed members including cambered ties.
