Worsted weaving mill, now retail book warehouse. Early C19. For Messrs JHS Pratt. Coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings; Welsh slate roof with stone slate eaves and stone gable copings. EXTERIOR: elevation to river of basement and 3 storeys; 11-window range; elevation to Thorngate of 3 storeys; 10-window range and 3-storey stair wing to left. Flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills to all windows, some with glazing bars damaged or missing, some with early C19 glazing bars, 7x6 lights with top 2 rows in opening transoms, others replaced with mid C19 six-light casements. River front has glazing bars on basement, casements on ground, 3-light mullioned-and-transomed windows (or 3-light cross-casements?) on first and second floors. Small scattered roof lights. Pent one-storey left extension has 4 lights with upper glazing bars, and roof removed. Right return has double loading doors on each floor, and one window, with one blocked in attic. Elevation to Thorngate has ramp up to altered entrance under wide steel lintel in third bay, lintel continuing over boarded door at right; full-height stair wing in curved projection to left with pent roof to eaves of main building; windows with small lights on landings; most windows have small lights; 6-light in 5th and 6th bays on top floor and in 6th bay on first. 3 protruding roof lights covered over. Some slates missing. INTERIOR: cast-iron flanged piers on ground floor.
