Retaining wall to high level railway line between Wednesfield Road Railway bridge (q.v.) and Lock Street railway bridge (q.v.). c1880. For the London and North Western Railway. Blue engineering brick with ashlar dressings. Retaining wall has one half bay adjacent to the stone-quoined north abutment of Wednesfield Road bridge and a further 24 bays to the abutment of the Lock Street bridge on the north west side of the line. Bays are defined by full-height pilaster strips on continuous offset plinth with a moulded stone capping; cornice with stone-coped brick parapet; plinths and cornices break round pilaster strips. Each bay has large square panel, similar panel to parapet. Similar to retaining wall between Cornmarket Street and Wednesfield Road bridges (q.v.).
