ILFRACOMBE
WILDER ROAD
(West side)
No.17
Jack's Dairy

GV
II

House and shop. Probably about 1880. Rendered, solid walls.
MATERIALS: tarred, slated roof with crested ridge tiles and
terracotta finials. Base of red brick chimney on right side
wall.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with garret; lower, 2-storeyed rear wing.
1-window front to Wilder Road; 1 window on splayed corner, 3
in return front on left (facing Bradwell Road). Rear wing is
3-windows-wide. Windows plain with mostly segmental arches;
wooden canted bay window in second storey to Wilder Road. 2 of
the second storey windows to Bradwell Road have margin panes
with coloured glass.
Best features are the shop windows facing Wilder Road and
Bradwell Road. Each has a prominent coved cornice with gabled
blocks, supported by pairs of shaped brackets at each end. The
display window facing Bradwell Road has
mullioned-and-transomed lights; transom-lights are blind with
trefoil-headed and quatrefoil panels. Bracketed eaves on
Bradwell Road side.
INTERIOR not inspected.
The house adjoins the southern end of Nos 19-45 (odd) Wilder
Road (qv), a terrace of working-class houses dated 1880.
Although No.17 is wholly different from the rest in
architectural character, it seems probable that the whole
block was developed at about the same time.
