SY67NE SOUTHWELL STREET, Southwell 969-1/1/168 (North side) 21/09/78 No.47 Garden wall attached to W of No 47 (not included) (Formerly Listed as: SOUTHWELL STREET Garden Wall to east of no 43)

II

Garden wall, remains of former dwelling on site, adjoining No 47 (not included). C17. Large squared coursed block in loam jointing, rises to c 2.2m from pavement. To the left a former doorway is blocked with dry-set stone blocks, retains two stone steps, and at centre is a 2-light hollow-chamfer stone-mullioned window with moulded and stopped drip over; at right end the masonry stops to remains of a door jamb. There is a short return at left end. This gives an indication of the former quality of buildings in Southwell, which has experienced almost complete rebuilding in the late C19 and C20. (Royal Commission on Historical Monuments: Dorset: London: 1970-: 259).
