Public house, now private house. Mid C19 (shown on pre-1855 print). Slatehanging on rubble to front, otherwise rubble; mostly dry slate roofs with projecting eaves with exposed rafter ends and purlins: 2 parallel cross wings with linking roof between service wing at rear right, brick stacks; central stack and over rear gables. Double-depth plan. 2 storeys; symmetrical 1:1:1-bay 3-window entrance front. Late C19 horned sashes, 4 panes over single pane within stone surround to those of projecting cross wing gable ends with triangular pediments over 1st floor, flanking entrance bay with 2/1-pane sash above round-arched stone doorway with stepped caps to square jambs, key block and stepped hood, original door with probably later coloured glazing with margin panes. Where inspected other windows are original hornless sashes with glazing bars including 2-window left-hand return with wide panes and 12/16-pane stair window. INTERIOR is virtually unaltered except for removal of some partitions relating to former rear passage. Features include some slate floors; window shutters; dogleg stair; panelled doors and 2 chimneypieces with consoles. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached rubble wall on left with granite copings and wrought-iron railings with fleurs-de-lys finials. HISTORY: said locally to have been formerly called the 'Lame Lion Inn' built to cater for trade associated with former canal.
