Details

MIDDLETON IN TEESDALE MARKET PLACE NY9425 (West side) 24/115 Nos. 49 and 50 GV II 2 houses, now with 2 shops. Early C18 with C19 and C20 alterations. Painted rough render with painted ashlar dressings and boulder plinth; roofs of graduated stone flags with stone ridge and chimneys. 3 storeys, 2 bays and 2 storeys, one bay.

No. 49 at left has low tooled stone surround to central partly-glazed flushed door; double doors at right inserted under wide flat stone lintel, probably of former shop window; late C19 sashes at left and on upper floors, all with projecting stone sills; flat stone lintels except to second-floor smaller windows with lintels in eaves, probably in heightened front; stone eaves gutter brackets. End chimneys.

Yard entrance at extreme right.

No. 50 at right, possibly originally part of No. 49, has C20 door at left, shop window at right and large first-floor window; steeply pitched roof to continuous ridge with No. 49, has right end chimney.

Interior of No. 49 shows beams in ground floor; other floors not inspected.
