MIDDLETON IN TEESDALE TOWN HEAD NY 9425 (East side) 24/146 (inset) Robinson tomb circa 22 metres south of chancel of Church of St. Mary GV II

Headstone. Circa 1825 to Jane Robinson, wife of Christopher Robinson, blacksmith, and members of their families to 1850; signed T. Snowball. Sandstone ashlar slab c.1.7 metres high with shaped top. Top panel contains hourglass, skeleton, cherub head and wings, and serpent and dove framing book with motto BE YE/WISE/AS/SER/PENTS/AND/HARM/LESS/AS DOVES; ribbon beside serpent 'ETERNITY HOW LONG', all in low relief. Well-cut inscription. Rear has long verse, and signature in wreath at foot 'T. SNOWBALL FECIT'.
