Details
SK 43 Sw PARISH OF ELVASTON BORROWASH ROAD 2/18 (West Side) Information Centre and Shop at Elvaston Castle GV II Stableblock, now information centre and shop. Early C19, restored c1970. Built for the Earl of Harrington. Red brick with stone dressings, brick plinth and hipped slate roof. Two storeys and seven bays with five centre bays advanced, also with single bay, single storey wing to east. Central chamfered four-centred arched doorcase with incised spandrels, returned hoodmould and double panelled doors, flanked to either side by two recessed and chamfered cross windows also with returned hoods. Beyond to either side in recessed bays there are similar doors to that to centre, and beyond again to east in single storey wing is a similar cross window. Above there are seven recessed and chamfered 2-light mullion windows. Ground floor windows have single pane glazing, upper windows have leaded lights.
