Manor house. Late C16. Red brick in English bond. Plain tile roof. Unfinished E-plan; north wing only partly built. 2 storeys and attics. Brick plinth with moulded stone coping. Broad moulded brick string-course with rendered base above ground-floor windows. Brick corbel table to eaves with rendered moulded brick cornice above. Rendered quoins to first floor. 4 broad brick stacks in English bond, each with 3 diagonally-set flues; one projecting to each gable end of south wing, with plinth, string- course and cornice continued round and one to rear wall towards each end of main range. Kneelered triangular gables with flattened rectangular tops and heavily moulded rendered brick coping. 5 full storey-height brick eaves dormers, similarly gabled, with fat rendered cylindrical finials protruding through coping; 2 dormers to north side of south wing, 3 to main range, including porch. A further 3 to south elevation, possibly C19. Courtyard dormers, except that to porch, are carried on slightly projecting 2-storey brick window bays, that in the re-entrant angle deeper, to light staircase. Ogee-moulded wooden mullioned and transomed windows with leaded lights and rendered dressings; 6-light to dormers with stepped moulded rendered hoodmoulds, returning as dormer eaves cornices, 8-light to first floor and 10-light to ground floor. One 4-light mullioned and transomed window to each floor of south wing between the 2 bays. Small 2-light mullioned window over door. Ribbed door with 4-centred arched moulded stone architrave with carved spandrels and squared moulded hoodmould. Outer walls of north wing built up to ground-floor string course, now with flat roof over. Shallow rectangular turret towards centre of north gable end of main range: probably late C16, red brick in English bond, of 2 low storeys, with eaves cornice and gable similar to main range; round-headed first-floor window to gable with hollow-chamfered brick architrave. Rear lean-to: red brick in English bond, 2 low storeys on plain brick plinth, with moulded 4-centred arched stone doorway not aligned with screens passage. 3-storey stair turret behind left stack of main range; red brick in English bond, with plain gable. Interior: only partly inspected. Wooden screen to left of former screens passage, with ovolo-moulded rails and muntins-and-pierced trelliswork to top. Moulded beams. Moulded wooden rear doorway. Moulded 4-centred arched stone fireplaces. Open well staircase to south wing, with turned balusters, moulded string and handrail and polygonal finials and pendants to newels. Said to be C16 wall paintings to upper floor of south wing. C18 panelling to first floor of main range. Ground-floor panelling, largely early C20. Fragments of thick-walled, possibly C13 building in south-west corner; pointed-arched-stone opening to south end of hall.
