GV II

Two houses, now public house. C17, front rebuilt probably c1769. Timber-frame on rubble plinth with painted brick front; tile roof with brick stacks. 3-unit cross-wing plan. Single storey with attic; 4-window range. Platt band over ground floor. 2 entrances with plank doors. Windows have 3-light transomed small-paned casements, probably renewed; similar casements to hipped half-dormers, that to right end with original casement. Lateral stack to left end, which has swept parapet adjoining No.20 (qv); end stack to right. Right return has decorative barge-boards to gable; rear wing, one of 2, has full-height panels with middle rails; varied fenestration. Rear has external stack with diagonal shaft tapering to top and C20 flat-roofed single-storey infill block between wings. INTERIOR: chamfered beams and altered stone fireplace to rear; room to right of centre has richly moulded beams and stone fireplace. A public house from c1760.
