SD 61 SW HEATS CHARNOCK off NICK HILTON'S LANE

9/142 Building c. 30 metres west of 17.4.1967 barn at Shaw Place (Formerly listed as Building to W. of GV II farmyard at Shaw Place)

Building of uncertain purpose now used as hay store, probably early C18. Coursed sandstone (ashlar ground floor front) with quoins, roof of stone slates. Rectangular plan, 7 bays. Two storeys, built with ground floor of rear wall against slope of field. Symmetrical facade. Chamfered plinth to front and end walls; front has flat floor band, a doorway in the centre and one at each end, those at left and centre with 2 mullioned lights above the door; over the centre door a square stone frame rises from the band; each side of centre doorway are 2 cross windows with some cast iron diamond latticed glazing remaining; flat floor has 6 oval bullseyes, all blocked. Left gable has-a flat floor door flanked by square windows; rear has square pitching hole and 2 square windows with glazing bars. Interior: various moulded beams, including one with stops, which has apparently been extended to fit this location.
