II Includes: Nos.1 AND 2 CATHEDRAL LANE. Includes return of Nos 1 & 2 Cathedral Lane (west side). Shops with accommodation over. Datestone 1905. Designed by Alfred J Cornelius on existing foundations. Glazed brick with freestone dressings and timber-framing to jettied and pedimented second-floor gable; dry Delabole slate roof; brick and freestone lateral chimney. Rectangular plan, end on to Boscawen Street. Eclectic Elizabethan vernacular style. 3-storeys; one-window range. Shop windows to ground floor with moulded entablature to fascia over. First floor has freestone rustications; tripartite mullioned window with horned sashes, set in triple-keyed architrave with Gibbs surround and carried on an apron consisting of a blind arcade with guttae-like brackets. Second-floor jetty, carried on 2 moulded corbels, elaborate timber-framing to recessed roughcast panels, segmental-pedimented oriel window with 2-light cross window and pilasters to dentilled open pediment. The Cathedral Lane elevation is also richly detailed and retains its original shop fronts. INTERIORS of shops altered C20, otherwise not inspected. Designed architectural specification documents together with plans by the architect Alfred J Cornelius for this building are held by Cornwall Record Office (880-1/7/11).
