SK 23 SW PARISH OF HOON OFF UTTOXETER ROAD 3/30 (North Side) Hoon Ridge II
Small country house. 1907. Brick, pebble dashed with plain tile hipped roof, bell canted with deep overhang. One tiled gable end to rear. Tall moulded brick stacks, one ridge stack, one gable stack, three lateral stacks and one in the pitch of the roof. Two storeys with attics. Irregular H-plan. Almost symmetrical five bay south elevation with projecting two storey central porch and projecting end bays. Lower half of the porch bay in timber, Tudor Style. Double plank doors with overlight and Tudor arch. Side walls with pseudo-timber framing and turned balusters above, flanked on each side by 5-light wooden casement windows with a transom and leaded lights. Projecting outer bay to left has a similar 4-light window; projecting bay to right has a 7-light bow window under jettied upper floor. Upper floor has from left to right a 4-light window with a transom, a 3-light, a 4-light with a transom, a 5-light and a 4-light with a transom. Two 3-light roof dormers above. West elevation has a tall two storey entrance porch similar to the one on the south front but gabled and with the date 1907 in a cartouche in the gable. 4-light windows with transoms to the left. Interior has a full height staircase hall to the rear with an early C18 Style open well staircase with carved tread ends and three turned balusters per tread. Fireplaces mostly tiled with plain bolection moulded stone or wood surrounds. Some art nouveau detailing. Much oak joinery, moulded beams, and panelled doors with brass fitments.
