Formerly Faculty of Arts, dated 1913, by Briggs, Wolstenholme and Thornely. Brick and Portland stone, 4 storeys, 9 bays. End bays of 3 storeys only. Centre 5 bays break forward under pediment. Rusticated ground floor with round arches (entrance and 6 windows). 1st and 2nd floors have giant Ionic fluted pilasters and 2 tiers of rectangular windows. Frieze above with egg and dart moulding; top floor with panelled pilasters between windows. Rich cornice and pediment at top, with centre shield, mantling and date. 1st bay has 2-storey bow flanked by narrow windows. Last bay has large rusticated round-arched gateway with mask keystone. Both end bays have 2nd floor tripartite window with colonnettes and top balustraded parapet with affronted sphinxes. Courtyard facade has centre aedicule with sculptured group of seated figures in pediment.
