5362 Quaker Burial Ground
(Formerly listed as Quaker
Burial Ground to south of
Nos 44 and 44A)
SJ 6604 9/105 9.8.74

2.
Small burial ground probably dating from early C19. A rectangular grassed area
following the steeply-sloping hillside above Darby Road end enclosed by brick walls.
Small, plain headstones are now ranged against each of the longer side walls. These
have much-weathered inscriptions and formerly marked the graves of many prominent
Quakers including members of the Darby family. A Quaker meeting house stood on a
site close by and Abraham Darby III provided in his will for the upkeep of both the
meeting house and Burial Ground.
