Guildhall, later with a shop. C17, front remodelled probably
mid C19. Render replacing stucco on studwork to front,
otherwise rubble with granite dressings; scantle slate roof,
part bitumen-grouted; brick stack on the left. Deep plan
including C17 rear wing at right-angles. 3 storeys; 3-window
2nd-floor range. Mid C19 tripartite hornless sashes with
glazing bars except for central 12-pane sash over blind bay;
moulded hoods on consoles to 1st floor. Royal Coat of Arms
over possibly original doorway with 2 granite columns with
moulded capitals; flanking C20 pilastered shop fronts with
full-width moulded entablature with fascia. Rear wing has 4
original granite mullioned windows to left-hand wall: two
3-light windows and a 2-light window all with hoodmoulds.
Other elevation has a late C19 window in similar style.
INTERIOR: rear wing is open to late C19 scissor-truss roof
structure; gallery at the front end with late C19 turned
balustrade; late C19 open-well, open-string staircase with
turned balusters, newels and pendants; moulded ceiling cornice
above.
