House in row. C16, refronted C18. Timber-framing, brick nogging, rendered and scribed front, tile and slate roofs, brick stacks. The front block is attached by a low-pitched slated unit to an early timber-framed wing with very steep tiled roof and lower framed wings. 3 storeys, 2-windowed. Replacement plain sashes at second floor and 12-pane sashes to first floor, all with stone cills. The ground floor has C19 pilaster shop front, with cornice, and late C20 fascia. To the left is a throughway, Cares Alley, with a wide C20 plank door in a peaked chamfered head, and with a bracket to the jetty. The back of the main building has a high rendered parapet. The throughway is paved in brick, and is crossed by 3 heavy beams; there is also a door, left, to No.44 (qv). INTERIOR not inspected.
