GV II
Silk mill. c1850-60. Red brick on rubble stone basement and ground floor, with stone and brick dressings and slate roof. 4 storeys on basement, 15 bays, the central 5 bays advanced. Giant pilasters topped by stone finials mark the angles and define the central section. Fenestration varies, but all windows have moulded bricks in segmentally-arched heads. Entrance in gable end, and loading doors inserted towards centre on 2nd and 3rd floors. 2 towers project from the rear elevation, housing the stairs. Against the central tower, is a lean-to engine house, containing remains of engine, the fly wheel and the fluted cast-iron columns carrying the beam remain in situ. INTERIOR: internal structure comprises a single row of cast-iron columns carrying timber beams on each floor.
