GV II*
Tower windmill. c1821 on site of earlier mill; restored 1951 and 1987. Magnesian limestone rubble, the base with brick dressings and the tower rendered. High round reefing stage base with blocked, round-headed doorways with brick arches in N and W, and metal doors to similar arches in S and E in base; high tapered tower has blocked doors at E and W, windows at 3 levels with wood lintels to boarded first and casements with glazing bars on upper floors. Restored domed cap has sails and fantail. INTERIOR intact, the most complete in the region. (Milburn GE and Miller ST: Sunderland River, Town and People: Sunderland: 1988-: PLATE XV).
