SK5361 MARKET PLACE 924-1/5/65 Former Moot Hall at north corner of 19/12/55 Market Place (Formerly Listed as: MARKET PLACE (North side) Yorkshire Bank)

GV II

Former moot hall, now disused bank. Dated 1752. Refenestrated and ground floor remodelled mid and late C20. Paid for by Lady Oxford of Welbeck. Coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings, reconstituted stone ground floor, and hipped slate roof. Projecting quoins and window surrounds, moulded main cornice. 3 storeys; 2:3:2 windows. First- and second-floor windows are top-hung glazing bar casements, those to the second floor smaller. Projecting centre, 3 windows, has pediment containing an achievement of arms in high relief, and a frieze inscribed HCHOM, interspersed with paterae. Beyond, on either side, 2 windows. Ground floor has central 3 bays with reeded pilasters and scroll brackets to cornice supporting the projecting upper bays. To left, 2 glazing bar windows with panelled aprons, and to right, a double door with overlight. Beyond, on either side, 2 similar windows. Right return, 2 windows, has similar fenestration to front. Ground floor has a glazing bar window to left and a panelled double door and overlight to right, both with projecting surrounds.
