SD4061 MAIN STREET, Heysham 939-1/7/18 (West side (off)) 06/04/79 Rock-cut tombs approx 4m SE of Chapel of St Patrick (Formerly Listed as: MAIN STREET, Heysham (West side (off)) Rock-cut tombs around St Patrick's Chapel)

GV I

Two graves. Pre-Conquest. cut into the sandstone rock close to St Patrick's Chapel (qv). One is child-sized. Both have socket-holes probably intended for timber crosses. An associated cemetery to the south of the chapel was excavated in the 1970s and bones were dated to the 10th and 11th centuries. Forms part of a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
