GV II

Public House. Early C18, with early C16 cellars and facade reconstructed, 1974. Brick with some timber framing and concrete dressings; tile roof, hipped to one end, with brick stacks. L-plan. 2 storeys; 5-window range. Quoins. 2 entrances have bracketed round-arched hoods and C20 6-fielded-panel doors. Windows have wedge lintels with keystones over C20 casements. Plaque records reconstruction. Large cross-axial stack. Right return is plastered, with simple cornice. Left return has part of gable revealed above adjacent building: exposed roof truss with collar and principals crossed at apex. Rear has plastered gabled wing with large end stack. INTERIOR: ground floor has chamfered beams; cellar has rib vault with chamfered ribs and Tudor-rose bosses. Photographs of 1970s show left return revealed, with square framing.
