GV II

Terrace of 8 houses. c1835. Stucco, with ground floors channelled to appear as ashlar. End houses and 2 central houses slightly projecting. 3 storeys, attics and basements. Each house of 2 windows. Nos 2, 3, 6 & 7 with original Doric porches having triglyphs to entablatures and surmounted by cast-iron balconies; No.1 with C20 concrete porch and Nos. 4, 5 & 8 with replacement columns; Nos. 1, 5 & 7 without balconies. Nos 4 & 5 porches paired to appear as one house. All with 6-panel doors, glazed in top panels and overlights. Recessed hornless sashes. Nos 4 & 5 with pilaster strips at angles and slightly projecting centre bays with small pediment above containing an oculus; all to give appearance of one house. No.4 with small bowed cast-iron balcony to 1st floor left-hand window. Nos 1-3 and No.7 with cornices and blocking courses; Nos 6 & 7 without cornices. INTERIOR not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached cast-iron railings to areas. The terrace is raised above what was once a carriage drive with gardens, now a car park. Nos 1-8 (consec) form a group.
