SJ8900 STOCKWELL ROAD, Tettenhall 895-1/9/143 (North side) 03/02/77 Stockwell End House and attached outbuilding and wall
GV II
House, outbuilding and wall. Probably late C16; 1890s additions. Roughcast over timber frame; later part of brick, part roughcast, ashlar dressings and timber framing; tile roof with brick stacks. 2 storeys; 2-window range with gable to left; 3-window later range to right has projecting canted bay window with gable over; end octagonal turret. Earlier range has C19 projecting small-paned casements; leaded casement to 1st floor gable; elliptical-headed entrance with recessed half-glazed door. Later range has brick cornices to both floors; roughcast 1st floor with brick quoins to turret; ground floor has 2:6:2-light mullioned and transomed window with leaded glazing and stained glass panels; casement window with leaded glazing; turret has cusped and transomed windows; all with leaded glazing; 1st floor has casement windows; small windows with cornices to turret, which has weathervane. Left return has small casements and lateral stack. Right return has projecting lateral stack with weathering over ingle. Rear has big stair window. INTERIOR: timber-framed interior walls and large fireplaces, one to 1st floor with flanking panelled cupboards; later part has stair with turned balusters; glazed landing screen and oriel; fireplace to front room has large fireplace with twisted timber Ionic columns said to be from Wrottesley Park. Subsidiary features: C17 outbuilding has some dressed stone to front and return, that to return continued as boundary wall for 27m along Lothians Road to corner.
