Pair of attached houses. c1840. Limestone ashlar with lateral and party wall stacks, roof not visible. Double-depth plan. 3 storeys and basement; 2-window range. A symmetrical front with end window sections set back, the middle windows set in wide, shallow projections with a banded ground floor to a plat band; second-floor sill band, with a raised moulding to the middle windows, frieze and moulded parapet coping. Porches to centre of returns have paired pilasters and a moulded coping, overlights with diagonal bars and a 4-panel door; canted oriels above the entrance. Tripartite inner ground-floor windows with cornices have 6/6-pane and flanking 2/2-pane sashes, cornices to inner first-floor windows, with architraves, to first-floor 6/6-pane and 3/3-pane second-floor sashes. No.17 has a late C19 porch extension with panelled pilasters. No.19 has a doorway set in the right-hand ground-floor window. INTERIOR: half-glazed screen door to a stair hall, with an open dogleg stair with cast-iron balusters and a curtail, 6-panel doors, panelled shutters, cornices and fireplaces. Forms a pair to Nos 21 & 23 (qv).
