Shop with accommodation over. Mid to late C19. Stone rubble with details in dressed stone. Roof not visible from street. Base of red brick chimney on right side wall. 4 storeys. 3 windows wide. Ground storey has arcade of 8 octagonal cast-iron columns, partly fluted and with enriched capitals; arched above boxed in, except for 2 shouldered arches at right-hand end. Rusticated pilaster at each end, finished with a tall, oblong block inlaid with coloured tiles; foliated bracket below, ball finial on top. 2 shopfronts behind the columns, well preserved, although with some parts boxed in. Display window to right has transom light of coloured, leaded glass; shop to left has glazed door with 2 solid moulded panels at the bottom and a panelled right-hand reveal. 4-panelled house door at left-hand end. Upper storeys have raised quoins and bands between storeys. Windows of 2-lights with eccentrically tall shouldered arches; centre piers have plain capitals. Plain sashes. Bracketed top cornice and parapet. INTERIOR: ground-floor completely altered. The building is part of a good group comprising Nos 26-32 High Street (qqv), mostly later C19 commercial architecture of a remarkably ambitious scale for a town of this size.
