Detached house on hill with main facade overlooking harbour. Early C19. Stucco with slate-hanging to southern road facade, north facade of western extension and its west elevation. Slated roofs, hipped at east end. Main facade 2 storeys, road facade 1 storey owing to rise in ground. Main facade of 3 canted bays, the centre bay larger, flanked by single bays; mostly pointed openings, some windows with traceried panes. Extension with casements to ground floor and 2-pane sashes to 1st floor. Eastern facade has a 3-light bay of 2-pane sashes and 3-light canted bay of 18-pane sashes at 1st floor level. Single-storey road facade of irregular fenestration with 3 sashes, 2 casements and one pointed Gothick window with leaded panes. INTERIOR not inspected. This house is a particularly prominent feature of the hillside viewed from the harbour and may be on the site of a fort known as Ilfracombe Castle and used in the Civil War.
