GV II

Town house. c.1840; altered. Red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and slate roof. Double-depth single-fronted plan with a back extension. Three storeys over basement, 2 bays; stone plinth, moulded 1st floor sill-band, plain frieze and moulded cornice. The ground floor has the doorway to the left (up 3 steps), with a doorcase of semi-columns with stiff-leaf caps, square abaci, and entablature with wreaths, dentilled cornice and blocking course with shallow triangular upstand, a hollow-moulded surround and panelled door with plain overlight; a lobby doorway to the right with chamfered stone surround and shallow cornice; and in the centre a canted bay window which has a cellar opening in the plinth, a raised sill, moulded cornice with blocking course, and altered glazing; the windows on the upper floors, which are not vertically aligned with openings on the ground floor, all have altered glazing, those at 1st floor with apparently lowered sills (breaking the sill-band but matching it) and wedge lintels, and those above, which are square, with raised sills. Gable chimneys. Rear and INTERIOR not inspected.
