SK11SW BEACON STREET 1094-1/1/17 (North East side) 18/04/73 Ardmore Cottage, Nether Beacon House and Ardmore House
GV II
House, now 3 houses. Late C17 or early C18 with late C18 addition and later alterations. Timber-frame with brick infill and brick; tile roofs with brick stacks. PLAN: double-depth plan with later range to rear. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; symmetrical 3-window range with C19 single-storey wings to ends. Hipped roof with 3 gables. Late C19 applied timber-frame to partly plastered stone plinth. Entrances to centre have porches recessed behind Tudor arches and Art Nouveau iron gates, half-glazed doors with leaded glazing and side lights. 3-light projecting windows with cornices, but 2 central 1st floor narrow windows. C20 windows to wings. Left return has exposed square framing and 3 flat-roofed dormers; tall stack. Rear range of 3 storeys, 4-window range, has coped gables and end stacks; modillioned brick cornice. Windows have sills, and rubbed brick flat arches over 12-pane sashes, 9-pane sashes to 2nd floor. Right return to Nether Beacon has C20 additions and entrance to ground floor; left return has small 2-storey rear wing with end stack and return 4:12:4-pane tripartite sash, taller than adjoining front range due to slope of ground. INTERIOR: Nether Beacon House not inspected but probably retains beams, fireplaces etc.
