ATHERINGTON SS 52 SW 6/9 Little Weir Farmhouse - II
Farmhouse, C17 remodelled in early C20. Rendered stone and cob. Slate roof, gable end to right, hipped to left end. Tall rubble stack with tapered cap, drip and off-sets at right gable end, and to rear gable end of left side wing. Nearly symmetrical 2 room through-passage plan, extended possibly in late C17 or C18 at left end by addition of wing, and to rear by addition of 2-storey dairy extension. 2 storeys. 3 window range of gabled half dormers with 6 over 2 paned sashes. Twin 8-paned horned sashes flank brick porch with slated gabled roof. 2 light casement, 6 panes per light to wing over plank door. Interior: stop-chamfered beams to hall. Ovolo-moulded door surround to staircase to rear of hall. Staircase in through-passage has turned C17 balusters to moulded handrail at head of stairs. Old 3 plank ledged door, battened to front to form 9 square panels. Single C17 truss with straight heavy principals, trenches for purlins, lap-jointed collar and part of ridge purlin survives over hall, the remaining trusses probably replaced in C19. 7 possibly C17 rafter couples survive over wing.
